Darren Jirsa, D.D.S.
Dr. Darren Jirsa was born in Ottumwa, IA, and is proud to call Iowa home. A graduate of Ottumwa Senior High School, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of Iowa. Dr. Jirsa received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1995. He was honored for academic achievement by induction into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Dr. Jirsa’s post-graduate training began with a yearlong oral and maxillofacial surgery internship at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Minnesota, both in Minneapolis, MN. He then completed a four-year post-graduate residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. Dr. Jirsa received his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery certificate in June of 2000 and began private practice at Iowa Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, P.C. in July of 2000.
Dr. Jirsa is a member and past president of the Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Jirsa also holds membership in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, the American Dental Association, the Iowa Dental Association, and the Des Moines District Dental Society. Dr. Jirsa is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Jirsa is an avid supporter of many civic and community organizations. He advocates for arts and culture in the Des Moines metro. Dr. Jirsa currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Des Moines Art Center, the Board of Directors of the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, and the Board of Directors of the Des Moines Metro Opera.
