Meet Dr. John Maletta
Dr. John Maletta was born in Centerville, Iowa, and has lived in Iowa most of his life. After graduating from Centerville High School in 1971, he graduated from Indian Hills Community College followed by the University of Iowa in 1975. Dr. Maletta received his dental degree from Creighton University’s School of Dentistry in 1979.
Postgraduate training included a general practice residency and an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. During that time, he received the Merle Hale Research Award in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Maletta has been practicing in West Des Moines and Des Moines since 1983. While maintaining his schedule in the office, he remains very active in hospital, dental, and civic activities. He has served as head of the dental departments at Mercy, Methodist, and Lutheran Hospitals.
Dr. Maletta has also been active in organized dentistry. He is Past President of the Des Moines District Dental Society and the Iowa Dental Association. He has been a Trustee of the Iowa Dental Association and a board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Maletta and his wife, Luann, have three grown children: Abby(Matt), Kate(Jake), and Nick. In his spare time, Dr. Maletta enjoys family activities, hunting, fishing, reading, and sports.
