Meet Dr. Joel Reynolds

Dr. Joel Reynolds grew up in West Des Moines and is a graduate of Valley High School. He continued his studies at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, where he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Biology. He was also an all-conference/all-region player for the baseball team during that time.  Dr. Reynolds then went on to receive his dental degree from The University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City.

Dr. Reynolds completed post-graduate residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, DE.  During that time he participated in “New Faces for Honduras,” a mission trip aimed at performing cleft, craniofacial, pathology, and trauma surgeries for the people of Honduras.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities during his residency, Dr. Reynolds contributed to several textbooks, including primary authorship of the chapter “Diagnosis and Treatment of Dentoalveolar Injuries” in the textbook Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma (4th ed.) by Fonseca, Walker, Betts, and Powers.  Dr. Reynolds also co-authored the “Dental/Oral Cavity” chapter in the Global Surgery and Anesthesia Manual, a textbook aimed at healthcare education and delivery in developing countries.

Dr. Reynolds is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, Des Moines District Dental Society, Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the G.V. Black Study Club.

Dr. Reynolds, his wife Annie, and their daughter Ellie live in West Des Moines. In his spare time, Dr. Reynolds enjoys golf, basketball, travel, and spending time with his family.
