Dr. John A. Maletta
Dr. John Maletta was born in Centerville, Iowa and has lived in Iowa most of his life. After graduating from Centerville High School in 1971, Dr. Maletta graduated from Indian Hills Community College, and the University of Iowa in 1975. Dr. Maletta graduated from Creighton University’s School of Dentistry in 1979.
Postgraduate training included a general practice residency and an oral & maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. During this time, he received the Merle Hale Research Award in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Maletta has been practicing in West Des Moines and Des Moines since 1983. While maintaining his schedule in the office, Dr. Maletta remains very active in hospital, dental, and civic activities. He has served as head of the dental departments at Mercy, Methodist, and Lutheran Hospitals.
Dr. Maletta has been very active in organized dentistry. He has served in many offices and is Past President of the Des Moines District Dental Society. He has been a Trustee to the Iowa Dental Association for six years, as a representative from the Des Moines District. After having gone through the chairs of the Iowa Dental Association he served as the President of the Iowa Dental Association in 2001. Dr. Maletta and his wife, Luann, have three children, Abigail, Kate, and Nick. They live in West Des Moines. Their children have all attended West Des Moines public schools. Dr. Maletta and his family are members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
In his spare time, Dr. Maletta enjoys family activities, sports, reading, golfing, hunting, and fishing
